FAQ

Everything you need to know about getting a custom van or truck build in Utah.

Our primary builds are on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans and heavy-duty trucks — including the Ford Super Duty, Ram 2500/3500, and Chevy Silverado HD. We also work with Ford Transit vans and Ram ProMaster. If you have a vehicle in mind that isn't on this list, get in touch — we evaluate builds on a case-by-case basis.

A full ground-up overland van or truck conversion typically takes 8–16 weeks depending on the complexity of the build, parts lead times, and our current shop schedule. Simpler installs and accessory upgrades can often be completed in days. We'll give you a realistic timeline during your build consultation before any work begins.

Both options work. You can bring your existing van or truck to our Sandy shop for a custom build, or we can help you source the right platform to start from. Generous Builds is part of the Generous Auto family in Sandy — which means you have access to their used vehicle inventory and financing options right on the same campus.

Build costs vary widely based on scope. A basic sleep-and-storage Sprinter conversion starts around $15,000–$25,000 in parts and labor. A fully-equipped expedition build with solar, lithium battery bank, custom cabinetry, rooftop tent platform, and full off-grid systems can reach $50,000–$80,000 or more. We work with every budget and can scope a build to match what you actually need for Utah terrain.

Generous Builds is based in Sandy, Utah — on the Wasatch Front with easy access from Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden, and the rest of northern Utah. We work with clients from all over the state. If you're coming from southern Utah, Cedar City, or St. George, we can coordinate drop-off and pick-up logistics for your build.

That's exactly what we build for. Utah's canyon country — Moab, the San Rafael Swell, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, the Book Cliffs — demands builds that handle sustained heat, deep sand, slickrock, and washboard roads at elevation. We spec every build with those conditions in mind: proper skid protection, heat management, reliable electrical, and tires suited to the terrain you're actually running.

Yes. Truck builds are a core part of what we do — including truck camper fitment and customization, bed rack systems, overland storage drawers, suspension lifts, skid plates, auxiliary lighting, and full off-road packages. If you want a capable overland truck built specifically for Utah roads, we can design and build it.
